FIJIAN Fans were the first ones to be seen waiting for the Westpac Stadium gates to open yesterday as day one of the Wellington 7s tournament.
Pram Maharaj came from Hamilton with his group of friends saying this has been the norm for the past three years.
With a little change to their hair colours as they sprayed it blue, Maharaj and his group stood out as they waited at the Westpac gates with their flags flying with pride at the Cake Tin.
With ticket sales expected to be lower than previous years this time around, Maharaj said they somewhat had a gut feeling that Fiji would win this year.
“And it’s also all about supporting the team, we’re here because of country pride,” Maharaj said.
Other Fijian fans came in a nine to 12 hours bus ride from Auckland just to be part of the 7s hype at the Cake Tin.
Fiji’s noble banner blue flags flew freely in Wellington and they were well spread out around the Cake Tin.
Costumes were not amiss as blue wigs matched their flags and even before Fiji’s first game against Japan, the support in Wellington was well visible for the Vodafone Fiji 7s team.
