Trial of drug traffickers to begin
Voire Dire proceedings for Australian National Joseph Abourizk and a local Josese Muriwaqa began at the Lautoka High Court today.
The duo have been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
Both the accused were found with 49. 9 kilograms of cocaine in Vuda Lautoka in August last year.
The cocaine’s value was to a tune of $15M.
Abourizk is represented by Senior Counsel Murugan Thangaraj and Warwick Korn from Australia together with Lautoka lawyer Iqbal Khan.
Muriwaqa is represented by Mark Anthony while Semi Babitu is the state lawyer.
The trial is expected to last 4 weeks.
