Sydney Bar Sparks Complaints by Using Naked Ladies As Serving Dishes
Take one popular Sydney bar, some naked women and some strategically placed food and what do you get? A whole lot of controversy. Cruise Bar, a venue at Circular Quay, may have gone a step too far with their latest event where models were hired to lay naked on tables with food covering certain body parts. Women’s right groups have called for a boycott of the bar due to the ‘objectifying’ of women at the venue’s releaunch party on Wednesday night, according to the Daily Mail Australia.
The topless women wore skimpy, flesh-coloured underwear and laid on tables where partygoers could dine from their bodies-turned-dinnerplates. Women’s advocate Melinda Tankard-Reist said she hoped people would take a stand against the bar for ‘objectifying’ women. ‘I hope people decide to boycott Cruise Bar en masse for treating women like trays,’ she told Daily Mail Australia. Of course, images from the party made it to social media where thoughts on the stunt were mixed between it being a clever marketing idea and ‘outdated’ and ‘appaling sexism’. ‘It’s a job, they accepted it, they are getting paid for it. If they are uncomfortable or don’t like it they could quit,’ tweeted Sandra. ‘No one is forcing anyone to eat the fruit either. Everyone is a grown adult and can make their own decisions on the matter.’
