Teen missing for 5 days found raped, killed near CM Akhilesh Yadav’s residence
Two rickshaw-pullers stole victim’s blazer, cellphone on Thursday, arrested
A 17-year-old girl, who went missing five days ago, was Monday found murdered, allegedly after being raped, from a green patch in the high-security zone near the residence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The Class 12 student had been missing since Wednesday morning after she left her home in Janakipuram area to go to school in neighbouring Vikas Nagar locality, police said. Her semi-nude and badly swollen body was found in the thickets at a spot which is a stone’s throw distance from the residences of the CM and DGP.
A postmortem examination confirmed that the girl was raped. The report states that she died of an ante-mortem head injury and was hanged later, a police spokesperson said.
Police said the body was located on the basis of information provided by two rickshaw-pullers who had stolen a blazer and a mobile phone from the dead body. Police took into custody the rickshaw-pullers, Satguru, 50, and his friend Deepu, 23, both from Bhitaikheda village in Haidergarh area of Barabanki district. The duo had no place to live in Lucknow and mostly spent night near Hazratganj’s Park Road area.
Satguru told the police that he had gone to relieve himself in the bushes Thursday morning when he saw the body hanging with a tree.
According to police, he said he along with Deepu brought the body down and took off the blazer and mobile phone.
According to police, the same day he sent the mobile phone to his wife in his village through a neighbour who had come to Lucknow. The Special Task Force team, which was helping in the probe, on Sunday traced the phone to Satguru’s village. A police team reached there and later took him into custody. His friend was also detained subsequently.
The girl’s family has alleged that she was sexually assaulted and murdered. Police, which had earlier lodged a missing case, converted it into one of abduction for murder on Saturday. The family members have not named anyone as suspect and claimed they had no enmity or dispute with anyone.
On Monday, the girl’s body was in the school uniform in which she had left her home on Wednesday, but her clothes were torn on several places, her uncle said.
SSP Rajesh Pandey said the claims made by the rickshaw-puller duo have several holes. “It is not easy to believe that they decided not to tell the police on seeing the dead body. We are getting their medico-legal examination done as per the requirement of a sexual assault case. We will send the samples for forensic examination,” he said, adding that they remain prime suspects.
Lucknow Zone IG A Satish Ganesh said, Pandey and other police officers questioned the duo at Janakipuram police station.
The victim’s uncle said she had left her home in Janakipuram for school on her bicycle at around 8 am Wednesday. He said her phone was on till 9 pm that day but nobody answered the calls. Later it was switched off. The family lodged an FIR at Janakipuram police station the same evening.
Police have still not found her school bag and bicycle.
The IG said the girl had skipped school that day and was seen in the footage of a CCTV camera installed on the Park Road in Hazratganj, where she is seen alone on her bicycle. He said the girl was killed the same day.
The girl’s father works with a private construction firm currently involved in construction of Agra-Lucknow Expressway. He declined to say anything. The family had moved to their Lucknow house after the father’s transfer from Jammu andKashmir about one-and-a-half years ago.
The girl lived with his parents and an elder brother. The family hails from Ghazipur district.
