Police Commissioner Brigadier- General Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed that they have removed a Police driver from investigations into comments allegedly made by National Federation Party MP Parmod Chand.
It is believed that the Police driver had accompanied Police investigators to take statements from the three people who complained against Mr Chand.
It is alleged the driver had made some remarks which could instill fear into the three and others who had wanted to come forward and lodged more complaints against Mr Chand.
The NFP, in a media statement, has confirmed that the Party is now investigating ‘allegations’ reported by the Fiji Sun.
This comes after the Fiji Sun on Monday, March 5, published statements from three people in the Northern Division, who alleged the certain controversial comments were made by Mr Chand.
The statement authorised by the NFP leader Biman Prasad said that: “In recent days, the Fiji Sun has published allegations about statements allegedly made by NFP MP Honourable Parmod Chand at a political meeting in Labasa in February.
“The Prime Minister has attacked NFP on the basis of the Fiji Sun reports.
“NFP is currently investigating the allegations made in the Fiji Sun and how they came to be reported.”
The party is expected to release a further statement on the matter. It says: “At this point, any person who comments on the Fiji Sun reports believing them to be true is advised to carefully consider their legal position.”
