No daughter should go through what this girl has allegedly gone through
“No daughter in this country should go through what this girl has allegedly gone through.”
High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo made this statement in the Suva High Court as a 45-year-old woman who allegedly raped and assaulted her 14‑year‑old daughter made an application for bail through her lawyer.
Justice Temo told the woman and her lawyer that they have a big mountain to climb as far as their bail application is concerned.
He said this is the first case infront of him where a mother has allegedly raped her daughter.
Justice Temo also highlighted that it’s a domestic violence case and is not a normal case.
The accused told the court that her youngest child who is in class three is missing for the past few weeks and has not been going to school.
She told the court through her lawyer that she will not interfere with the complainant who is now residing in a hostel in Domain.
The state has objected to bail.
The matter has been adjourned to the 3rd of next month for the bail ruling.
The matter was reported at Nakasi Police Station by the 14‑year‑old girl’s teacher.
The girl had told the teacher that her mother was allegedly raping her between 1st January and 5th July this year.
