Missing Salesh Chand Told Wife He Was Going Out
Ranjini Devi will never forget Tuesday night when her husband, Vinod Patel Regional Manager West Salesh Chand arrived home in Lautoka from Rakiraki.
Mr Chand had been in Rakiraki for one week working at the company office there.
Mr Chand told his wife he was going out not long after he arrived at their Lautoka home.
He did not tell her where he was heading to.
He failed to return home. The company car he drove was found on Wednesday morning burnt out at the Fiji Sugar Corporation grounds in Lautoka. The charred remains of a person were in the car.
Mr Chand was reported missing the same day.
Police said the body was burnt out beyond recognition and they could not even determine whether it was a male or female.
This morning, a post mortem will be done to see whether it was Mr Chand or not.
Ms Devi was still too distraught to speak to the media yesterday.
She came out briefly for an interview but the anguish set in again and other family members quickly took her back inside the house.
The family’s worst fear is that Mr Chand was the person in the car.
A family member described Mr Chand as a man who loved his family and was liked by everyone.
Prior to joining Vinod Patel, Mr Chand was Regional Manager West for Courts Fiji Ltd.
Police confirmed Mr Chand’s wife, Ranjini Devi was interviewed and had provided her statement.
A family member said: “We are all shocked and at the same time we are still unsure whether that was Salesh in the vehicle because the body was unrecognisable.”
“He always cared for his family and was a very talented person in the field of sales and marketing.”
Mr Chand’s two sons, who are both in high school, were at home and still in shock.
The family friend said Vinod Patel has been providing all they could for Mr Chand’s family.
