A WOMAN died after the house she was living in with her son and his family at Namara in Labasa was destroyed by a fire at midday today.
The fire started at the woman’s house and fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, it spread to a neighbour’s house which was also destroyed.
The incident caused a frenzy as people in the neighbourhood vacated their houses, fearing that the fire would spread further.
Sant Kumari, the deceased, had returned to the burning house after successfully taking out her son’s family to safety.
National Fire Authority’s chief executive officer John O’Connor said they were carrying out investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
