Families live in fear
TWELVE families are living in fear after a group of people forcefully entered two houses this week ordering them to move out.
Pictures obtained by this newspaper showed the members of the group relaxing inside the houses they allegedly entered.
The two families, who live in Buca, Savusavu, with the other 10 families had to fight off the group who threatened to remove all belongings from the houses.
Indra Wati, one of the residents who was forced to vacate her house, said she was at home with her grandchildren and daughter-in-law when the group arrived on Tuesday.
“We locked the door and they forced it open and came inside the house and told us to start packing our things,” she said.
“I had my grandchildren in the house and they were frightened as well, so I took them to the room. We told them to leave, but I hope police charge them with trespassing because they forcefully entered our house.”
Another resident, Sant Ram said since January he had not been able to sleep well.
“We were told in January to move out of our house but we have been living here for more than 10 years.”
Another resident Sanjay Kumar said he was forced by the group to sign an exercise book to indicate his agreement to vacating the land.
“I refused to sign it because it’s not proper and there was no Court Order shown to us but a Court Judgment only,” he said.
“There was no Eviction Order except for a Court Judgment and we have evidence to prove that this piece of land has not been transferred to the man who claims it.”
The Savusavu businessman, Rajesh Prasad, who is believed to own the piece of land, said he had given time to the families to vacate.
“I am acting according to a Court Order and the families were told to move out last December and January, early this year but they have refused to do so,” he said.
“I have all the papers with me to prove my argument.”
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed a team was sent to the site to maintain peace and ensure that everyone was safe.
They have not confirmed whether the group members would be charged with trespass.
