Death Of Wife Leaves Family In Shock
A family in Waila Housing, Sawani, was in shock yesterday when they learned that their mother and wife had died after spending three days in the Intensive Care Unit.
Catherin Molly, 33, was admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital ICU after she was found under the Old Rewa Bridge in Nausori with injuries, Police sources confirmed.
She was pronounced dead yesterday.
It is believed that the mother of three fell through an open walkway on the old bridge. She was rushed to the Nausori Hospital and later transferred to Colonial War Memorial Hospital, according to our Police sources.
“I think she had no idea that there was a missing slab on that walkway and that’s how she fell,” Police sources said.
Despite the warning signs in full display and barricade at the end of the old bridge the woman had used the walkway instead.
The woman’s husband, Peni Seniasi, said his wife left their home at Waila Housing on Thursday to see her family in Sawani.
“On Friday night I went with her to their family’s fundraising dance at the Kings Nightclub in Nausori and we had a small dispute during the party,” he said.
“The argument was over cash and when we came out of the club she was just talking and arguing with me. I chose to ignore her and continued walking. When we reached the end of the town, she told me she will go and file a report with the Police. So I told her if you want to come home then come with me, and that’s when I left.”
According to Mr Seniasi they were drunk when they left the nightclub. He said that was also the last time he saw his wife and he did not hear anything from her after that.
“When I called her phone, it was answered by her cousin so I thought all that time my wife was with her family,” he said.
“On Sunday, her twin sister called asking for her, I was confused. Again on Monday, the family called asking me if I’ve filed a report about her missing. But I did not bother because I knew that she’s somewhere with her relatives and that she’s fine.
“To my surprise, the Police knocked on our door this morning saying my wife is at the CWM Hospital. I accompanied them thinking she was sick or hurt, but when I got there, I met her in the mortuary after few days in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Mr Seniasi said he was not aware about the incident until yesterday.
“It is so painful because there were no goodbyes said and now I am thinking of my three children growing up without their mother,” he said.
“I will really miss her because she has always been there by my side in these 13 years of marriage. She was a very committed wife always making sure that we don’t lack in anything at home, especially the kids.”
He said his wife had wanted them to celebrate Christmas with her parents, and he will still fulfil those plans.
Mr Seniasi is working at the Hot Bread Kitchen branch in Valelevu and the wife had recently resigned from Ram Sami & Sons (Fiji) Limited, and chose to stay home with her three children, Penioni Molly Degei, 15, Sereana Diula, 13, and Ben Jacob
