IN a bid to spread some good cheer among the poorest traditional music groups in the Western Division, the Indian Cultural Centre distributed musical instruments to at least 15 groups last weekend.
Centre director Kishan Lal Kanojia said the instruments were given to the groups to help them in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Many of the groups were mandalis from different settlements and Mr Kanojia said the instruments would help them spread some good cheer in their communities.
“We identified mandalis to assist and they are from Tavua, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba.”
The instruments included harmonium, tabla and sitar. They also received a range of holy books such as the Ramayan.
“We wanted to donate something that would help these mandalis in the aftermath of the cyclone and we wanted to bring a smile to their faces.”
