A BULLET was found on board a new Fiji Airways aircraft on its inaugural return flight from Auckland, New Zealand, earlier this year.
The discovery was confirmed by the airline yesterday.
In a statement to this newspaper, Fiji Airways confirmed that the bullet was found upon the aircraft’s return to Fiji in January.
“The aircraft had just completed its commercial flight route, Nadi – Auckland – Nadi on January 8, 2016,” the airline stated.
“The bullet was discovered by ground cleaning crews upon its arrival at Nadi International Airport.
“Fiji Airways immediately followed procedure and alerted local authorities — the Fiji Police Force — who quarantined the aircraft and launched an investigation.”
The statement said the aircraft was subsequently cleared and released for operations. “As this is an ongoing investigation, Fiji Airways cannot comment further and would direct all further queries on the matter to the Fiji police.”
Police spokesman Inspector Josaia Weicavu said more details on the progress of investigations would be released today.
The author of the post revealed how Air Terminal Services’ cleaning crew found a bullet lying underneath a passenger’s seat.
While the details of when and where the flight had returned from have been discredited by the airline, the writer claimed that a passenger on seat number 36 was ready to take over the aircraft.
