THE Commissioner Western’s office is preparing to distribute about 80 tonnes of tents received from the Chinese Government yesterday.
Divisional head Manasa Tagicakibau said they hoped to do that this weekend.
“Right now we are working through the inventory process which is very important to ensure that we know our stock of these items before we start the distributing the tents to affected areas,” he said.
“During the PM’s tour of affected areas in the Western Division, we saw there was a real demand for tents.
“A lot of people were asking the Prime Minister and our officials for tents which we did not have at that time.
“But the shipment has arrived and this 80 tonnes will be for the whole of the Western Division.
“We will also be identifying areas where we will distribute these tents.
“It will only go to those that were badly affected.”
He added that five more shipments of relief items would be delivered from China over the next few weeks.
According to Government, a total of 6000 tents, 58,000 waterproof canvases, 15,500 blankets, 15,500 pillows with pillow slips, 135,000 first aid kits, 60 portable diesel generators, 60 portable gasoline generators, 5040 flashlights with alkaline batteries, 5000 Led dynamo flashlights and 45,000 bottles of water purification tablets would be sent from China.
