Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, who represented Fiji at the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting yesterday, tweeted that he met Mr Abbott and invited him to visit Fiji.
“Meeting new friend Aussie PM Tony Abbott. Invited him to visit Fiji,” Ratu Inoke tweeted.
At the retreat, Ratu Inoke said he caught up with PNG’s former prime minister Sir Michael Somare.
Earlier in the week before the meeting, PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was pleased with Fiji’s return to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS).
Mr O’Neill said Fiji was a founding member of the organisation and the forum was Fiji’s organisation but it was unfortunate that circumstances beyond their control had not enabled the leader of the Fiji Governemnt to be at the meeting.
He added he was a strong believer in building bridges and he was glad Fiji attended the meeting “and we look forward to working with Fiji and the Fijian Government right into the future”.
